Item Open Access Nacão Legal Consciousness: Discussions of Slavery and Slave Trade in 17th-Century Amsterdam(Yeshiva University, 2022-09-07) Perelis, Ronnie; Elazar-DeMota, YehonatanThis is one of the central topics Dr. Elazar is researching during his post-doc at the University of Antwerp and will be part of my class on the Jewish Presence in the Americas at Stern College. In addition to his scholarly and rabbinic endeavors, Dr. Elazar is an accomplished and innovative Jazz musician and will be performing Thursday night at Wilf campus with his Jazzphardic Project as part of the Nosotros at YU evening of Jewish-Latino art and music in partnership with the Philos Project. https://www.yu.edu/schneier/news-events Yehonatan Elazar-DeMota holds a PhD in International Law from the University of Amsterdam. He was born in Miami to a Caribbean Sephardic family. He was trained and ordained as a rabbi and judge of Jewish law by Hakham Yosef Benarroch, at the Sephardic Centre of North Miami Beach and Hakham Mordekhay Levi de Lopes. He established a beth midrash (Jewish education centre) in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 2009, and another in La Romana in 2013.
