Abstract
As part of the Diasporas Project at the Schneier Program and the ongoing Crisis and Hope: YU Voices series, Professor Perelis hosts Alejandro Meter, a professor of Latin American literature (USD) and award winning photographer. Professor Meter discusses his series of portraits of artists and writers along the US-Mexico border and the Latin American Jewish diaspora. Dr. Meter began taking remote portraits during Covid which are particularly fascinating. Meter’s work has been shown throughout Latin America and Europe and you can learn more about this project here: https://lareviewofbooks.org/article/postcards-from-confinement/
His portraits are intimate and piercing and his ability to meld image with the personal story of these individuals opens up a window into these little known networks of culture and creativity that cross borders and nationalities.
