dc.description.abstractCourse Description: This course covers the (re)habilitation of people with various degrees and types of hearing loss. The course covers the variety of communication modalities and languages used by people who are deaf and hard of hearing with a particular focus on Auditory Verbal Therapy, a family-centered listening and spoken language intervention. Prerequisite: SPAU 3033¶ Learning Outcomes: At the completion of the course, the student will be able to: 1. Understand the impact of hearing/hearing loss on spoken language development (Pediatrics). 2. Demonstrate knowledge of communication disorders related to hearing loss (Pediatrics). 3. Demonstrate knowledge of technology available to assist clients diagnosed with hearing loss (Pediatrics and Adults). 4. Demonstrate knowledge of communication options for clients diagnosed with hearing loss (Pediatrics and Adults). 5. Discuss the principles of evaluation and therapy related to hearing loss (Pediatrics and Adults).en_US
