dc.description.abstract | Eating disorders have always been existent, but have become particularly prevalent in modern
Western culture. Eating disorders can cause severe mental and physical illnesses and can have an
untold detrimental impact on the lives of the affected individuals. This paper will focus on the
specific factors believed to contribute to the development of an eating disorder, with a particular
emphasis on the adolescent years. A historical review of eating disorders will be given so as to
provide relevant context to modern cases. The etiology and emotional toll of eating disorders
will be considered through the personal accounts of individuals who have struggled with this
illness. | en_US |
