Abstract
Selected Talmudic texts with medieval and modern commentaries; emphasis on methodology; beit midrash method of small-group study supplements lectures. For advanced students in Jewish studies. 0.000 TO 5.000 Credit hours
The course objective is limud haTorah. We present a traditional three hour preparation for each hour of shiur. Seder attendance of course is required. Shiur will be Monday and Tuesday at 7 pm (in person). On Weds nights when I am not present in person, I should be available via Zoom or WhatsApp We will study the second perek of Pesachim. This covers issurei hanaah in general and hopfully we will discuss yeihareig v'al yaavor as well. Mekoros will be given in advance to prepare for shiur. The expectation is that talmidot come to shiur prepared and are able to talk intelligently about the material. Shiur will progress beyond a simple understanding of the sources and work towards a conceptual grounding. A final exam and perhaps midterm will be given. Together that will count for 50 percent of final grade. Seder attendance and participation counts for the other 50 percent. I look forward to a semester of growth in Torah and Yiras Shamayim.
