Dear YU Community, It is in the spirit of resilience and solidarity that we bring you the November edition of the View from YU. Since October much has transpired. As our brothers and sisters in Israel grapple with an unprecedented crisis, our University, led by President Berman, continues to be an example of the strength and unity that defines our community. On the pages that follow, you’ll read about his success in creating the nation-wide coalition, Universities United Against Terrorism. To date, more than 100 institutions of higher education have signed on to the coalition’s statement expressing solidarity with Israel. In addition, you’ll find information on YU’s webpage Together with Israel providing real-time updates and resources on our collective efforts to bolster Israel and one another. Over the past five weeks, our students, faculty and administrative staff have helped to clarify our present moment through prayer, acts of chessed and special educational events, all of which have inspired and informed us. This edition highlights many of their efforts, ranging from the “Stronger Together Night of Unity,” attended by more than 1,000 students, faculty and staff, to the university-wide memorial service commemorating the shloshim of those who perished on Oct. 7. You will also learn about faculty and students who are propelling the University forward by securing significant research grants as exemplified by the Katz School’s Dr. Marian Gidea; earning appointments to prestigious institutes and associations as demonstrated by Cardozo Professor Alex Reinert and Wurzweiler’s Dr. Mary Beth Morrissey; and engaging with the wider New York City community through innovative initiatives like the Innovation Lab’s Hive in the Heights and the first-ever YU Real Estate Day organized by the Sy Sym’s School of Business and the Office of Alumni Affairs. These are some of the uplifting stories you’ll find in this edition of the View from YU.en_US
