Abstract

In this paper, three 3D printed cantilevers are analyzed with respect to their elastic properties. From its most basic form, a formula was constructed to be able to model the elasticity of the various materials used in the cantilevers. All three cantilevers were placed under the same stress using weights at the hanging edge and analyzing the changes in deflection. In all three cases, the results for the elastic modulus (E) was consistent with the theoretical equation prediction. A cost function optimization was used to produce this result. As the stiffness of the material increased, a definitive expected increase in E was noticed. These experiments and analysis have allowed for the understanding and validation of the elastic properties of the cantilevers.
