Abstract
In this class we will learn the fundamental techniques of observation utilized by designers and artists to make visual decisions and to create compelling works. As artists, we observe the world very closely. We consider how it is that we are experiencing what we see, and analyze our surroundings using our intellect and our intuition. Why do certain arrangements lead us to understand what we see in particular ways? How is information conveyed in a work of art or design? How can a visual observation lead to a particular thought or suggest a particular emotion? We study the ways we see the world so that we can communicate more effectively in the visual realm.
