Abstract
Welcome to the September edition of the View From YU. As the fall semester unfolds, the final month of the Jewish calendar nears its end—a period of time that bridges the past year with the one ahead. This season of reflection and renewal offers a chance to consider where we have been, where we are headed and how we can approach the new year with purpose and optimism.
With that in mind, we invite you to explore this edition of the View From YU. Here are a few highlights: • YU is expanding its presence in health sciences with a state-of-the-art campus in Manhattan’s Herald Square, adding 160,000 square feet to its existing midtown footprint. Reflecting YU’s mission to shape the future of healthcare excellence, this new campus will prepare skilled, compassionate professionals to meet growing industry demands. • Sapir Cohen, a former hostage abducted from Kibbutz Nir Oz, shared her remarkable survival story with an audience of over 500 on the Beren Campus. Rabbi Dr. Ari Berman, President of YU, described Cohen as a symbol of resilience and a powerful reminder of our responsibility to one another. • The Undergraduate Israel Program of Yeshiva University welcomed its very first cohort with immersive Torah programming in preparation for the High Holy Days. Following the holidays, the program will launch its full academic curriculum in partnership with Tel Aviv University and Bar-Ilan University. • Congratulations to Dr. Charles Swencionis, a professor at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, on receiving the Cynthia D. Belar Award for Excellence in Health Psychology Education & Training. This prestigious award honors psychologists who have made a significant impact through innovative teaching and training initiatives. • On Sept. 25, the Lieberman-Mitzner Center for Public Service and Advocacy, founded by the Ira Mitzner and Riva Collins families, will celebrate its official launch with an exclusive screening of a documentary on the life of Sen. Jospeh Lieberman z”l. A day earlier, on Sept. 24, a student-led event will feature young leaders shaping the future of Jewish politics and activism. We are pleased to share these stories and more as we embrace a new year and its promise of growth, success and joy.
