This class explores traditional digital photographic techniques, investigates the mechanics and abilities of a digital camera, and examines photographic history. Using the camera as a manual 35mm DSLR, students will produce work in response to lectures, assignments, and critiques. This course will provide students with an introduction to the technical and visual strategies in producing and reading photographs. Students will learn through various exercises a range of tools including manual cameras operation, composition, exposure, and digital file workflow. Exposure to the technical aspects of the photographic process, from image capture to the final exhibition, will be cultivated into a personal means of expression. After mastering the basics the students will work towards making a final portfolio of 10 final images.en_US
