Abstract
As the new science of happiness and well-being, positive psychology has grown tremendously in the past 25 years. Yet many of its key tenets have long historical roots in classic Jewish thought. In this presentation, Professor Edward Hoffman will highlight the teachings of Maimonides as a pioneering thinker on human potential—and ways to maximize it in everyday life.
Dr. Hoffman has been a faculty member of Yeshiva University since 2003, and is the author of several books in the fields of psychology and Jewish studies. These include The Wisdom of Maimonides: The Life and Writings of the Jewish Sage (Trumpeter, 2008) and Positive Psychology: The Science of Happiness and Flourishing (Sage Publications, 2023) co-authored with W.C. Compton.
