Abstract

A Canticle for Leibowitz is a futuristic account of the results of man's self destruction brought on by nuclear warfare. Survivors produce mutant monsters hated by the "normal" population and governed by special laws. In ensuring generations, the church strives to revive forgotten science. However, the successful rediscovery leads again to disaster. Man does not learn from previous historically recorded mistakes. Conflicts arising during the play strikingly parallel modern day problems surrounding . religion and scientific progress. (from Program)
