EDUC 2300 Introduction to Elementary Education

Abstract

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the field of elementary education. Through readings, discussions, inquiries, learning experiences, and fieldwork, students are encouraged to confront their preconceptions about teachers, schooling, and education in order to deepen their understanding of the foundations of elementary teaching and learning. This course is required for elementary (childhood, grades 1-6) education majors. Fieldwork sessions (36 hours) will be a combination of live or virtual fieldwork (26 hours) and video case analysis of classrooms (10 hours) on Teaching Channel Plus. SCW Fieldwork supervisor Professor Donna Greenberg will place students for live & virtual fieldwork according to individual schedules; students can find their own fieldwork placement with the approval of Professor Greenberg. ___ Education is a discipline informed by theory and practice.
