dc.description.abstractWelcome! This course will on the topic of Tefillah (Prayer). We will explore the idea of Tefillah in general and focus on the Tefillah of Shemona Esrei (the Amida) specifically. Throughout the course we will explore the role that the Hebrew language plays in Tefillah and how the words the Tefillah is written in enhance the prayer. Each class will focus on analyzing and connecting to a different part of the Shemona Esrei. Looking forward to a great semester! Course Objectives: • Students will use root words, prefixes/ suffixes, and context clues to decode a Hebrew text • Students will compare Hebrew words in the text to come to a richer understanding of the Shemona Esrei • Students will discuss the relevance of Tefillah and the text of the Shemona Esrei • Students will apply values and topics brought up in Shemona Esrei to situations in modern day lifeen_US
