dc.description.abstractThe subject matter of Experimental Psychology concerns the application of research methodology and scientific reasoning to the study of Psychology. Through the class lectures and laboratory experience this course is designed to meet the following learning objectives: 1. To learn the principles of scientific reasoning and methodology and apply them to the study of behavior. 2. To learn the difference between the scientific and non-scientific approach to the study of psychology and the implications of this difference 3. To evaluate information that is presented in the popular media (newspapers, magazines) as well as in your college course under the rigorous lens of formal scientific thinking. 4. To understand the scientific method as a tool that has both strengths and weaknesses 5. To understand the application of the scientific method to your everyday life and to virtually any chosen profession or personal endeavor. 6. Critically read scientific journal articles 7. Apply statistical knowledge and statistical reasoning to development and analysis of research. The learning objectives of the lab build on these goals and will be presented i n your lab sessions.en_US
