BIOL1376H / CHEM1376H: Principles of Biochemistry - Fall 2021
Abstract
Biochemistry is the chemical description of biomolecules that interact in living cells and allow organisms to function. In this course, we will use our knowledge obtained in organic chemistry to answer basic questions of biological nature. For example, how do enzymes catalyze a chemical reaction? How proteins fold and at which conditions do they unfold? We will also talk about the cause of several diseases and conditions in human health. At the end of this course, using chemical reactions, you will be able to explain how and why biological processes such as diseases, vitamin deficiency, and the conversion of food to energy occur.
