dc.description.abstract | The current COVID-19 pandemic has left the world scrambling for a solution to tremendous suffering. Many tactics are being employed in order to study the deadly virus and discover treatment options. Determining if a patient has coronavirus antibodies is being used to detect if the patient previously had the virus. In addition to detecting previous infection the antibodies have a multitude of beneficial purposes. Patients who have antibodies are claiming they can’t get Covid-19 again and are volunteering for plasma donations as a therapeutic treatment. A study was done in a local orthodox community in order to test which patients have the antibodies and if there are any symptoms and/or previous health conditions that correlate with a positive result. The study concluded that the community was far from reaching herd immunity and that there was a commonality found in positive patients. Currently, generating antibodies are being used in the Covid-19 vaccine to achieve herd immunity without having most of the population infected with the virus, saving millions of lives, and ending the pandemic. This paper discusses the background of the Covid-19 virus, Covid-19 antibodies, and its practical applications during the pandemic. | en_US |
