Book abstract: Examines the general importance of therapeutic responsiveness, followed by reviews of how responsiveness is approached by different types of therapies that identify common threads across these approaches as well as unique contributions. Focuses specifically on appropriate responsiveness, which is summarized by the following basic guidelines: "Do the right thing at the right time, considering the client, the context, and the therapeutic approach.” Carefully examines the working alliance between the therapist and the client, including how to strengthen it and avoid and repair ruptures. Examines the importance of client diversity, including the challenges that arise when clients and therapists come from different backgrounds. Identifies important takeaways for clinical practice as well as clinical supervision, training, and research.en_US
