Abstract
The interaction between physical activity and dietary choices and their influence on pregnancy outcomes, both in regards to the health of the mother and the child, has proven to be beneficial when approached safely. The complexities of common pregnancy complications, such as preeclampsia, macrosomia, preterm labor, miscarriage, and stillbirth, are explored after a review of pregnancy-related health issues, such as anemia, diabetes, heart diseases, and hypertension and their potential effects on a woman’s pregnancy. Research has shown that through responsible exercise practices, there has been a reduced risk of pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia and pregnancy-induced hypertension, as well as depression and anxiety. Given the many benefits, it is important for all women to consult their ob-gyn before engaging in physical activity while pregnant, as there are many precautions to take when exercising while pregnant, and there are some exercises pregnant women should avoid. Women’s nutrition during pregnancy has been shown to greatly impact the health and outcomes of both the mother and the child, highlighting which foods to eat and which foods to avoid. Taking the correct prenatal vitamins and minerals has proven to have great effects on fetal development, with vitamins and supplements greatly stimulating the growth of the fetus and providing the correct nutrition needed by the changing bodies of both the mother and the child. Additionally, a relevant case study emphasizes the importance of a healthy nutrition and responsible exercise habits, through ob-gyn recommendation. Through the integration of clinical insights and empirical data, this study advances the understanding of the effects of lifestyle factors on the health of expectant mothers and their children.
