This paper has traced the evolution of storytelling from its oral beginnings to its digital present. Storytelling has long been an educational tool and, as it has continued to evolve throughout the centuries, remains one today. The story has gone from being a solely oral transmission to being a written and digitized one as well. Its ability to convey morals and cultural values gave birth to the first colonial educational system which eventually evolved into the structure of the educational system of the United States today. The Common Core State Standards Initiative, the modern product of this structural evolution, does not ignore its educational ancestor. On the contrary, it devotes several Standards to storytelling skills, as stories, whether in oral, written, or digital form, continue to provide context and meaning for learners.
