Abstract: | Sports drinks do have positive effects on athletes. These drinks not only provide athletes with energy, but they also assist in the hydration of athletes especially preceding, during and immediately following an athletic performance. Even though these drinks are thought of highly in the professional sports world, they are strongly ill advised for children and those who are not partaking in strenuous activities. Before purchasing a sports drink, one should consider why they would need this specific drink full of carbohydrates and electrolytes and if their reasoning for consuming this drink will lead to positive or negative effects. If one is unsure, they should stick with water since it is always a safe option when it comes to hydration. The added carbohydrates and electrolytes in sports drinks enhance one’s athletic performance if consumed at the right time and in the appropriate quantities. |
