Abstract: Course Description: Surveys are widely used to collect various types of information about human behavior and experience. This seminar will introduce students to the use of survey methods in psychological science. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of survey met hod s including sampling, questionnaire design, and methods of data collection and analysis, with emphases on how these survey methods are applied in efforts to gain understanding of psychological phenomena as well as insights from psychological research t hat inform survey methodology A major component of this course will be an introduction to the use of R a widely used and versatile programming language and open source software environment to manage and analyze survey data. No background in programming is necessary. Another major component of this course will be reading and discussion of scholarly articles and chapters addressing topics relevant to the use of survey methods in psychological science, including ( generalizability and sampling issues in psychology and ( the psychology of the survey response process and its implications for questionnaire design and measurement.
