dc.description.abstractBasic Jewish concepts; analysis of the fundamental principles of Jewish legal history and thought. 2.000 TO 5.000 Credit hours This course covers the following basic tenets of Jewish thought: Section I: The Development of Avraham’s Faith Section II: Definition of the Mitzvah to Believe in God Section III: How Do We Ascertain that the Torah is True? Section IV: Why Did God Give us Mitzvot? Section V: The Chosen People of the Bible Section VI: Torah Study Section VII: Jewish View on Happiness Section VIII. What is Prayer? Section IX. Establishing a Context for Understanding Suffering & Adversity We will also have a brief summary of the following laws: Laws of Kashrut Laws of Holidays Laws of Shabbat Laws of Prayers The following lists will be learnt over the semester: The Jewish Months The Ten Commandments The Thirteen Principles of the Rambam The Seven Noahide Laws The Six Constant Mitzvot The Twelve Tribesen_US
