Abstract: Course objective: To analyze and understand how the abstract principles of Halacha can be applied to modern-day issues yielding concrete rulings on matters of technology and its use on Shabbat. The principles of Halacha will be analyzed by a study of sections of the Talmud and its commentaries, and the concrete rulings will be derived from a study of selected readings of modern-day Halachic authorities. Course units: The Halachic status of electricity. Electric lights on Shabbat. Electric appliances on Shabbat. Microphones and hearing aids on Shabbat. Electric timers and their use.
