Abstract: This work focuses on these questions specifically as they apply to the world of genomics, but they are prevalent to all areas of bioinformatics. An analysis of some key historical developments and current prominent technologies provides insight into the directions in which bioinformatics may develop and the problems it needs to solve in the years to come.
