Abstract: This class focuses on writing digital news features on digital journalism platforms. We will start with journalism basics but you will soon be writing feature articles. We will cover idea generation, pitches, story production, ethics, basic photography, graphics production and what is sometimes referred to as second day stories… where we take news of the day or breaking news and then pull a specific thread to explore a cause or personal story impacted by that day-of or breaking news story. We have also made an agreement with the student editors of the YU Observer this year that will allow students in this course to work with the news-site to pitch feature stories to the newspaper when appropriate.
