| Abstract: | היחס העוין כלפי החברה הנוצרית בספרות האשכנזית בימי הביניים הוא מ ן המפו ־סמות שכמעט אינן צריכות ראיה. ביטויי איבה חריפים לנצרות ולנושאי דגלה מצוי ם לרוב, בעיקר בספרות הפיוט, עוד לפני הקטסטרופה של תתנ״ו. ישראל יובל טען לאחרונה שהתבטאויות אלה נעוצות לא ברדיפות שבימי הביניים אלא בהשקפת עולם שלמה וקדומה הקשורה לחזק הגאולה.’ אך גם הוא סבור שמאורעות הדמים בשנת תתנ״ו החריפו את היחס העוין והגבירו את השאיפה לנקמה.’ הפרעות חסרות התקדים ומסירות הנפש של אלפי קדושים נקבעו בתודעתם של יהודי אשכנז לאורך ימים והשרישו לדורי דורות את רגשות הסלידה מן האויב הרצחני ומאמונתו הכוזבת.
