Abstract: | ... Although Dr. Berger offers an insightful study of the current Messianic movement among Lubavitcher Chassidim, he misses a key point, in terms of understanding the conditions that have enabled the Messianic movement in Lubavitch not only to flourish, but also to grow in strength. ¶ The failure of the "official" Lubavitch movement known as Agudath Chassidei [Chabad] Lubavitch (known by its acronym as AGUCH) to even consider the possibility of selecting a new spiritual leader for the worldwide Lubavitch movement has clearly enabled the Messianic faction in Lubavitch to flourish in the wake of no serious spiritual alternative.
