Abstract: | On February 1, 1979, Regine M. Tessone dashed through the Teheran airport with her parents and brothers. As they boarded the plane, the pilot announced, "You are the lucky ones! The airport is now closed, and the Ayatollah Khomeini has arrived." Mrs. Tessone's memoir Monavar's Journey: Bridge to Hope (Palmetto Publishing, 2022) recreates the life of her Jewish family in Iran before the takeover of Khomeini and her subsequent life in America, where she embraced many immigrant opportunities. She will describe reuniting with her mother's family in Brooklyn, serving as a volunteer in Israel, falling in love with a non-Persian Jew, and founding Aqua Modesta, a world-famous women's clothing line. Mrs. Tessone served as Spiritual Advisor to the Sephardic students at Stern College. |
