Abstract: "In these learned and accessible essays, Rabbi Edward Reichman, MD provides a much-needed historical perspective to our contemporary Covid-19 experience. Written by an Emergency Medicine physician while battling Covid in both his personal and professional life, they reflect a longstanding Jewish tradition to search for meaning amidst tragedy. Returning to the original sources and archival material, as well as unearthing a wealth of new insights and discoveries, the author explores pre-modern(a) outbreaks such as plague, smallpox, and cholera in Jewish history and rabbinic literature. We are left with the inescapable conclusion that while this pandemic certainly has novel features, much of our experience is truly "precedented.""-- from the publisher. Source: Publisher
