Abstract: Self-control is an ability that affects many areas of success in a person’s life. Parental involvement in the development of their children’s self-control is integral. A large part of the development of an ability to delay gratification to reach a greater goal comes largely from the involvement of parenting in a child’s life. If parents provide proper attachment, monitoring, and nurture, and avoid dangerous or overbearing parenting techniques, they provide their children with the best chance to develop self-control.
